Fit Challenge: Rollin’ with the homies

February 27th, 2007, 6:30 pm by jessica

crosstraining-blog-1.jpg

Today for crosstraining we enjoyed the break in showers with some Nordic Walking along the beach at Dana Point Harbor. It was almost like being in “Chariots of Fire,” only with less men and sweat.

Snow play

sq.baldy.jpg

Call me crazy.

When I saw Mount Baldy covered in snow after Thursday’s snow/rain system, I got an itch to climb the beast.

There’s something about wind, ice and snow that excites me. I feel more comfortable hiking in the snow then on dirt and rocks. I love the crunching sound of snow and the uncertainty of the footing with every step.

I like the danger. It’s almost arousing.

We met bright and early at 9 a.m. today at our favorite place — Dana Point Harbor — for another Saturday adventure. Today we’d be busting out the poles.

Fit Challenge: Growing muscle pains

February 20th, 2007, 7:07 pm by jessica

blog-stairs.jpg

You don’t realize how painful going up and down stairs is until you’re told to do it a dozen times. I exaggerate, it was more like eight. But it was just as painful.

Today I joined a group of four, plus personal trainer/slave driver Elaine Reeves Gjonovich, at Dana Point Harbor for our weekly cross-training workout. It was like 10 times harder than cross-training a couple of weeks back and an excellent workout.

Fit Challenge: Into the wilderness

February 17th, 2007, 1:47 pm by jessica

Laila-Doritos.jpg

Laila is in transition. She is slowly accepting that her chicken breast/brown rice/almonds/oatmeal diet may be coming to an end. The truth hurts.

But good news is we’re both still exercising pretty regularly.

Fit Challenge: Richard Simmons lovin’

February 10th, 2007, 5:08 pm by jessica

simmons-blog-2.jpg

No weight-loss regimen is complete without paying a visit to the father of pep, Richard Simmons. Our group met early Saturday morning in San Clemente for a carpool/caravan up to Slimmons Studio in Beverly Hills. Laila and I were none too happy about having to get up about the time roosters crow on a weekend, but the trip proved worth it.

Fit Challenge: Pain can be fun

February 7th, 2007, 4:31 pm by jessica

elaine%20blog.jpg

I felt like “Rocky” yesterday when I ran up a seemingly endless flight of stairs, pushing my physical and emotional limits for pain. Too bad I’m not training for a big fight. Just trying to lose some fat and gain muscle mass so I can pose on calendars if I ever so desire.

Fit Challenge: Camp pain

February 3rd, 2007, 11:50 am by Iris

hanky%20panky.jpg

Laila and I had our first group exercise outing this morning. We met at 9 a.m. in a San Clemente park for boot camp. It was cold and muddy.

The group — ranging from late 20s to 60s — was energetic and willing to submit to an hour of sweat and pain. Not all the exercises were grueling, but most of them were aimed to keep the heart rate up.

Fit Challenge: Return to the world of carbs

February 1st, 2007, 6:16 pm by jessica

biggest%20loser%20blog%203.jpg

I ate a banana today. It was the best-tasting banana I’ve ever had in my entire life. My Detox Soup eating plan ended yesterday. Laila is being all hardcore about it and continuing for a fourth day. Whatever.

We’ve both noticed some positive differences around our waistlines. A subtle change for me, but Laila’s wearing pants she hasn’t fit in for more than a year.

Fit Challenge: Quitters never lose

January 30th, 2007, 11:53 am by jessica

Biggest%20Loser%20blog%202.jpg

Sunday (1/28/07) was our last meal. I had fish tacos, buckets of chips and a margarita at El Torito. Laila had a bowl of Trix, sweet and sour soup and some chicken. Those were the days … before our five-week weight-loss challenge.
